06 DOSIER:
Nick Horney Ph.D THF

Nick Horney, Ph.D.

Name: Nick Horney, Ph.D.

Where were you born and raised?
Born – Columbus, GA; Raised – Charlotte, NC

What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
Entrepreneurship – In 2001, leaving a role as a Vice President on the Executive Team of The Center for Creative Leadership to start up a consulting firm focused on leadership, team and organizational agility has been my biggest transition in life.  Since there were no similar firms focused on Agility, everything had to be created from scratch, starting with the research required to build The Agile Model®, the framework for all of our future products and services. Building a cohesive team (global) that had the same vision and passion for Agility has accelerated our growth over the past 15 years and continues to be an ongoing process.  Certainly this transition would not have been possible if I did not have a supportive spouse who enabled me to pursue my vision.

What’s the once piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
Anticipate change before you have to react to it, whether it is in your professional life (transitioning from military to civilian) or personal life (single to married).

Your Personal Why?
To give back my time and experience as a former executive, author and entrepreneur to the Spec Ops Community for what I personally gained through my 23-years of service in the Navy.

How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
I truly believe that I can make a contribution to THF that will help equip the THF cohorts to be change ready (Agile), regardless of the transition they are facing at the time, regardless of whether it is a personal or professional.

Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
Retired Navy Captain (Spec Ops – Diving & EOD)

Favorite THF Value, and why?
“Prepare yourself for Adventure” – One of the fundamental elements of the organization I founded in 2001, Agility Consulting, is “Anticipate Change.” We no longer can sit back and wait for change to overtake us.  We must identify the trends and patterns of our VUCA world so that we can preemptively make change happen by demonstrating agility.
